POSITION TITLE:   Engineering Support Specialist
REPORTS TO:   Engineering Manager
LOCATION(S):   Kirkland, WA or Remote

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide Engineering support for the entire company product internally and externally. Interface with customers, sales representatives and dealers to answer technical questions and configure radios. Investigate the requirement and demand for the customer system and input to the Engineering development team. Lead the effort for Testing and Certification of land mobile radios in the customer field including the IP radios.

Act as the main point of contact for P25 sales for MR/TCM/Inside sales team and direct opportunities. Work with Sales/Marketing Managers to develop a strategy to help promote our P25 product line and meet sales targets established by the company. Act as P25 Product Manager and provide Monthly sales forecasts

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide engineering system support for the company product line including but not limited to:
      •  Land Mobile products – P25 / IDAS / Analog
      •  IP/LTE products

  2. Investigate customer identified problem reports
      •  Collect relevant data
      •  Debug and troubleshoot failures
      •  Apply relevant configuration changes as required

  3. Lead the effort for testing and certification of land mobile radio products as required

  4. Interface with internal and external customers to define requirements and opportunities to enhance the radio product line

  5. Respond effectively, efficiently and clearly to inquiries from dealers/sales/customers via phones, email, and face to face. Respond within expected parameters with any necessary follow-up

  6. Attend outside events as Sales and technical expert when requested

  7. Program, modify and/or align functioning ICOM products
      •  Interpret sales order; determine necessary modifications for requested options
      •  Ensure requested options are compatible with equipment
      •  Program equipment as necessary

  8. Assist with beta testing of New Product in the actual field.

  9. Prepare professional training presentations and present these in a professional manner.

  10. Oversee and become involved in P25 system sales that have been identified as leads/opportunities

  11. Track P25 sales in all territories, this includes USSG/Canada/Federal/Mexico/Latam, Conventional and Trunked systems

  12. Provide weekly sales opportunity report to SR Management

  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  1. Must have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  2. Ability to make recommendations and decisions.

  3. Ability to perform effectively in a high pace, multi-task environment; and ability to independently plan and organize work schedule.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with internal and external customers.

  5. Hands-on expertise in general IP Networking including WLAN applications, routers, access points and the troubleshooting of these systems.

  6. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to diffuse frustrated customers and leave them with the sense that "ICOM cares" is critically important.

  7. Associates degree from technical college in electronics; military communications school or equivalent.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. EXPERIENCE – 5 years of demonstrated success as a Radio Technician, Two way Radio Support Specialist, or Radio System Integrator. Contacts already established within the industry.

  2. TECHNOLOGY. RF wireless technology, commercial and consumer products. Mobile voice and data communications, computer controlled RF products. Two way radio handsets and base stations, scanners and receivers. LTR, Passport, TDMA and FDMA protocols. In-depth knowledge of various Land Mobile Radio architectures. Including, LTR, Passport, T1, Telco, IP networks, microwave and associated platforms.

  3. SERVICE EXPERTISE – Proper use of signal generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, and associated equipment. Ability to read and interpret electronic circuit diagrams, flow charts and schematics. Diagnostic and repair skills (including excellent soldering and assembly techniques) are necessary, as is knowledge of the function and performance of the various components used in LM Radio.
