POSITION TITLE:   Local Technical Channel Manager– Land Mobile
LOCATIONS:   Midwest


As Land Mobile technology continues to get more complex, our customers demand higher levels of technical support and customer service. To meet and exceed those expectations, a new level of technical sales and support is required. The Local Technical Channel Manager will provide an exceptionally high level of "local" support in both sales and technical guidance to the land mobile dealers and customers within the local region they reside in.

The Local Technical Channel Manager is an experienced sales professional who not only understands the products but also understands the customers and the environments that they are selling into. The Manager is a member of the Land Mobile Sales Team with the responsibility to achieve business sales goals. By providing a high level of technical proficiency with Icom Land Mobile products, the Manager will respond to and support local customers, prospect assigned opportunities, support government bids and contracts, and identify third party products and applications to achieve communication solutions. The combination of these efforts will differentiate Icom America from the competition and set the highest standards in the communications industry.


  1. Be the initial contact for customer‐focused requests, pre-sales and post-sales support, and provide the first level of technical support to dealers and customers within a geographic territory.

  2. Educate dealers on ICOM products; keep dealers up-to-date with current sales promotions; recruit new dealers and direct accounts; and build Icom America’s business within the assigned region.

  3. Work jointly with the sales management to create a territory plan, utilizing feedback from dealers and adding own knowledge of local market demand.

  4. Advocate for continual improvement in customer experience to increase brand loyalty.

  5. Act as the local technical expert for ICOM products, accessories, and applications used in developing total solutions. Become educated with the product line, learn how to use and program equipment, and make product recommendations for various applications and solutions.

  6. Demonstrate product knowledge by training others, assess inventories at dealerships, identify new opportunities for sales growth, and implement strategies to achieve and exceed sales.

  7. Plan daily/weekly activities to travel to customers and dealers, and use each customer visit as an opportunity to train and coach. Conduct trade show, road show, and customer presentations to local channel dealers and customers.

  8. Support and collaborate with peer Local Technical Channel Managers and other Icom America staff, share information and best practices, problem-solve, and encourage technical growth of all team members.

  9. Complete required sales, forecasting, and trip reports on time. Communicate regularly with the Sales Manager on status updates or when issues arise, and identify market trends to assist the Product Planning Team.

  10. Other duties and projects as assigned.


  1. TECHNOLOGY - RF wireless technology, commercial and consumer products. Mobile voice and data communications, WLAN, computer controlled RF products. Two way radio handsets and base stations, scanners and receivers. P25, IDAS, SMR, ESMR, MPT1327, TETRA, LTR, TDMA, and NXDN protocols.

  2. LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE SKILLS - Ability to create an environment for team success. Generate enthusiasm; create a sense of urgency for the mission. Maintain team focus to drive execution. A good listener, able to negotiate conflicts and solve people problems

  3. COMPUTER SKILLS – Strong computer skills to analyze data and develop strategies. Extensive knowledge and skill in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point, Adobe and Web Ex. Ability to create presentations that link multiple applications.

  4. PERSONALITY - High-energy, strong work ethic, good sense of humor, positive outlook. Adaptable to changes, work well under pressure, enthused by challenges. Experience in the U.S. Land Mobile radio industry as a MR or retail sales. Winning personality and ability to develop rapport and relationships. Product training experience.

  5. TOTAL SOLUTION SALES – Successful experience in developing, presenting, closing and implementing total RF communication solutions.


  1. 4+ years of industry experience with extensive technical training; electrical engineering degree or certification desired.

  2. Professional sales and/or marketing skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills; professional demeanor; presentation and public speaking abilities.

  3.  Experience and exposure to RF wireless technology through commercial and consumer products.

  4. Work from a home office; ability to travel 2 weeks per month, including 2 weekends per month; demonstrated self-starter.

  5. Ability to focus on details, executes strategies, be flexible yet decisive, and build strong working relationships with peers and customers.
